The Marketing Automation program is a 90-hour course at Cumberland College that focuses on hands-on training to get you involved with real marketing automation projects. This course is offered as part of the ACS in Digital Marketing, as well as a standalone course, depending on your educational needs.
Today, we’re hearing from one of our experienced instructors at Cumberland College, Jesus Robles. After earning his MBA and a degree in computer science, Jesus brought his expertise to Cumberland College, where he teaches the Marketing Automation course. Now, he’s here to share the knowledge that he’s accumulated over 30 years with our dedicated and driven students. Read on for a look at the top tips that Jesus has for those interested in a career in marketing automation.
The Importance of Marketing Automation Training for Students
When asked about the relevance of marketing automation training, Jesus told us that he sees it as “one of the most important things that any student in the marketing industry can learn right now.” He goes on to note that “back in the day, traditional media was trying to attract potential customers to the physical stores. Those times are gone.”
Now, according to Jesus, businesses need to be more intelligent and “find those specific customers that are more willing to buy the business’s products and services.” His course at Cumberland College gives students the skills they need to be able to build personalized automated campaigns and assets on Hubspot, as well as other popular platforms to reel in targeted customers.
3 Marketing Automation Tips that Jesus Swears By
We asked Jesus to tell us his top three tips on marketing automation that he tells his own students. Here’s what he said:
- “The internet is like an ocean of potential customers, and you need to know how to fish for those potential customers.” In other words, you need to optimize your marketing strategy to reach a certain audience. That’s when you’ll start seeing results.
- “You need to be smart enough to learn the needs of those customers and what the company is trying to sell.” Getting to know everything about the business and what it offers, in addition to the customer’s needs, is essential for garnering the right information to attract buyers.
- “Keep trying, always. It’s a matter of trying to find the tool, technique, and hypothesis that is going to work. It may work for a time, then things change, and you need to adjust.” In our marketing automation courses, you will learn how to customize dashboards to measure performance over time and keep track of these changes.
Advice for Students
Jesus had two more important pieces of advice for prospective students. The first was “be patient. We do a lot of testing. We test new tools and we test our hypotheses of how those tools are going to work.” He explained that patience will allow you to properly prepare key components, including projections, funnels, and buyer personas, that will deliver the results you’re looking for.
Jesus also encouraged students to “be open to sharing your knowledge. I see myself more as a mentor who can facilitate the sharing of knowledge.” Jesus regards open communication in his classroom as a cultivator of better understanding. He maintains that when individual students share their thoughts and experiences, everyone benefits. This type of practical, dynamic training is what will prepare you to excel in a digital marketing career today.
